Meta Strips Facial Recognition Code from Smart Glasses App After Public Outcry(share.joinmastodon.org)
Just days after a damning WIRED report exposed that Meta had quietly embedded facial recognition technology (FRT) code into millions of phones, the tech giant has quietly acquiesced in demands to reverse course.Last week, researchers identified code in Meta AI, a companion app for its line of smart...
Becoming a whole coiner(reddit.com)
Hello everyone, I'm 20 years old and have a huge passion for finance. I'm currently one semester away from graduating college and want to be a financial advisor. I'm a huge ben Felix fan and SCV/Value believer and have a system that I stick too every week. With that being said, I hit an absolute homerun on crypto last year. Back when I was 15 I also used to mine BTC on a nice hash account off my gaming computer that didn't last long because my parents thought it was all fake and was raising our electricity bill. Where I'm going with this is that I have somewhat deep roots with crypto as a whole and told myself I wouldn't touch it again after I did so well at such a young age because I know most people don't make it out of this space alive. Recently however, I realized I'm in a very blessed spot and have this urge to get back into it. I would keep it very plain and simple and just own a single bitcoin and ignore it for the next few years. With bitcoin's current price my overall portfolio would be around 38% BTC which I'm not opposed to but it is definitely a mindset change. I'm partially used to it by now considering I survived liberation day 2025. Just looking to hear what people have to say about my situation, any feedback is much appreciated. submitted by /u/Overkill-621 [link] [Kommentare]
Anthropic's new model Fable will silently handicap work on LLMs [D](reddit.com)
Seems like they have engineered some specific limitations that are widely cited as follows: In light of the ability of recent models to accelerate their own development, we’ve implemented new interventions that limit Claude’s effectiveness for requests targeting frontier LLM development (for example, on building pretraining pipelines, distributed training infrastructure, or ML accelerator design). Using Claude to develop competing models already violates our Terms of Service, but enforcing this restriction through our safeguards avoids accelerating the actors most willing to violate these terms. Unlike our interventions for cybersecurity, biology and chemistry, and distillation attempts, these safeguards will not be visible to the user. Fable 5 will not fall back to a different model. Instead, the safeguards will limit effectiveness through methods such as prompt modification, steering vectors, or parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT). These interventions will not affect the vast majority of coding work. We estimate they will impact ~0.03% of traffic, concentrated in fewer than 0.1% of organizations https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48464732 Other comments note how even using the word 'nuclear' in the context of scientific research elicits refusal behavior by the model: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48473302 This makes it seem quite plausible that the model could subtly sabotage any machine learning work (even as false positive). Some suggest this has been happening behind the scenes for a while already, but can anyone confirm that? submitted by /u/AccomplishedCat4770 [link] [Kommentare]
