almost every "crypto stats" post floating around still cites 2022-2023 numbers. pulled together what I could actually verify against a named source, all from 2025 or 2026 $19B liquidated in 24 hours on Oct 10 2025. largest single-day liquidation in crypto history, roughly 9x any previous day. 1.62 million accounts wiped (CoinDesk Research) derivatives are 82% of all crypto volume now. ~$209B derivatives vs ~$22B spot daily average. most people think they're trading spot, they're actually in a leverage market (TokenInsight Q1 2026) ~65% of crypto volume is automated, estimates reach 86% counting all algo execution. traditional markets run 60-75%, so crypto's now more machine-driven than TradFi (MEXC Research 2026) 97% of persistent day traders lose money, this is the Brazilian CVM study that followed traders past 300 sessions, not just people who quit early. My current favourite is Kraken because of its similarity to Binance. I used Binance a lot in the past because of very low fees for trading, but they failed to secure the MiCA regulation authorization in my country. Coinbase has higher fees, but sometimes I use Coinbase as a second option just to move crypto around.
